Why have a ‘Working with Me’ Document

Do you have one of these? Do you know what one is?

At Radical HR, we love the concept of a “Working with Me” document. Many people don’t know what this is, so we’re excited to share why this tool is so valuable for enhancing collaboration and making professional relationships more effective and enjoyable.

What is it?

  • A short doc (often 1-2 pages)
  • A “user guide” so people know how to work with you
  • Formatted in your own style – Word doc, PowerPoint, email, fancy design

Why we Love the ‘Working with Me’ Document

Clarity and Transparency | It helps set clear expectations and reduces ambiguity right from the start. Sharing your communication preferences and decision-making style helps to avoid misunderstandings and work with others more smoothly. It gets rid of assumptions!

Efficiency | Imagine having a guide that tells others exactly how to reach you, when you’re available, and how you like to work (and where and how you do your best work). It saves time and makes our interactions more productive.

Stronger Relationships | By sharing a bit about your values, strengths, and an insight into your “why,” you can hope to build stronger connections and demystify yourself. It helps others understand you and where you’re coming from, what you find energizing (and exhausting), and how you can work together well.

There are many different formats, styles, and content. The great thing about it is that you can personalize it for yourself and really make it your own. As we continue to reiterate ours, we’d love to hear your thoughts and insights. Anything that you think is a “must” to include?
